Call for Contributions – Radiotopia in Taipei
We are excited to announce the Radiotopia Training School, a four-day exploration of creative radio practices and the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum. This event, set in the historically rich C-Lab in Taipei, Taiwan, will take place from April 9–12, 2025. It offers a unique opportunity for artists, technologists, and researchers to reimagine communication and broadcasting in a post-NET world.
A Historical Backdrop
C-Lab, our host venue, carries a legacy of transformation. Once a military base, it housed the Taiwan Provincial Government’s Central Research Institute at Da’an, following its establishment as the Industrial Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office during Japanese rule. Today, it serves as a hub for cultural and creative experimentation, making it the ideal setting for Radiotopia’s interdisciplinary pursuits.
Themes and Focus Areas
Radiotopia fosters creative exchange between Taiwan and Europe, emphasizing care in community learning, sustainability, and collaborative knowledge-sharing. We invite contributions that explore:
- Radio as Art: Engaging with the EM spectrum creatively and critically.
- Experimental Transmission Media: Investigating new forms of radio broadcasting.
- Open-Source Innovation: Sharing tools and software for democratizing radio art.
- Sustainability in Broadcasting: Employing small-scale, energy-efficient frequencies.
- Resilient Communication: Decentralized systems for diverse communication infrastructures.
- Cross-Cultural Collaboration: Strengthening planetary connections.

About the Toolkit of Care (TOC)
Radiotopia is part of TOC (CA2110), a project supported by COST. This initiative brings together an interdisciplinary network to develop a Toolkit of Care—a model for sharing expertise across geographic and social boundaries. From theoretical analysis to practical prototypes, TOC embodies innovative methodologies of care in creative practices.
Join us at Radiotopia to redefine communication through boundary-crossing practices, environmental sensitivity, and community-driven innovation. Let’s reclaim the EM spectrum for a sustainable, open, and resilient future.
