Presentation
Audioblast Cyprus is a week-long extension of the Audioblast festival, dedicated to sound, radio, material and networked practices, unfolding in the urban, social and sonic fabric of Nicosia.
For more than a decade, Audioblast has explored emerging forms of sound creation through live performance, radio art, transmission practices, soundwalks and networked listening environments.
The Cyprus edition extends this approach by integrating felt as a material of listening, transmission and filtering — anchoring sound practices in tactile, architectural and embodied processes.
From 15 to 21 February 2026, Audioblast Cyprus brings together artists, researchers and participants for a collective workshop combining felt-making, sound experimentation and radio transmission, continuous AM and online broadcasting, public soundwalks across the city, and an evening of performances and concerts at the CYENS Centre.
2026 Theme: Interference Zone / Hyper-listening (felt & sound)
Between wave saturation, signal noise and the hybridisation of spaces, Interference Zone names a sensitive terrain where perceptions intersect, destabilise and intensify.
In this edition, felt operates as an interface:
a porous material, an acoustic filter, a membrane between bodies, architectures, frequencies and environments.
In a city marked by layers of histories, borders, transmissions and discontinuities, Audioblast Cyprus approaches Nicosia as a sonic and material field of interference, where physical space, radio waves, textiles, infrastructures and human presence constantly overlap.
Hyper-listening seeks to move beyond the audible, towards an expanded perception of sound through its technological, sensorial, social and material extensions: listening to frequencies, networks, vibrations, textures and collective traces.
Projects and activities developed during the week engage with:
- augmented listening practices (technological, material, collaborative or extended)
- forms of interference (radio waves, AM transmissions, data, feedback, signal crossings)
- felt as acoustic matter (absorption, insulation, resonance, filtering, friction)
- collective perception of sound in hybrid environments (urban / textile / radio / online, local / distant)
- metaphors of listening in contexts of saturation, attention, borders and networks
Formats & Activities
Week-long workshop (felt & sound)
A collective laboratory exploring felt-making, sound experimentation, radio transmission and listening practices.
Includes a permanent AM transmission and an online radio stream active throughout the week.
Radio & transmission practices
Continuous broadcasting, live interventions and networked listening moments, linking physical, material and online spaces.
Soundwalks in Nicosia
Guided and experimental soundwalks unfolding across different areas of the city, focusing on listening as a situated, embodied and material practice.
Performances & concerts
Thursday 19 February 2026
18:00–19:00
CYENS Centre
An evening of performances and concerts emerging from the workshop context and invited projects.
Programme to be announced.
Listening as Practice
Audioblast Cyprus proposes listening as a collective, situated, material and relational act, unfolding across physical space, felt, radio waves and networks.
Rather than presenting fixed works, the festival emphasises process, transmission and shared experience — turning the city and materials into active media, and the audience into listeners in motion.
