Toolkit of Care Conference, 3–5 September 2026, Podgorica, Montenegro
APO33 is pleased to share the open call for the Toolkit of Care (TOC) Conference: Vectors of Care in Experimental Arts, taking place in Podgorica, Montenegro, from 3 to 5 September 2026.
In a context shaped by social and ecological crisis, conflict, precarity and technological transformation, the conference invites artists, researchers, creative technologists, curators, activists and cultural practitioners to explore care as an ethical, political and artistic practice.
The event will bring together contributions at the intersections of art, technology, science and life, with particular attention to mutual care, collective knowledge production, environmental and social responsibility, technological experimentation, and care-aware artistic practices.
Possible topics include
- DIY, DIWO, making and collective practices
- Experimental art, radical aesthetics and art beyond commodity
- Commons, open source and free/libre software
- Art, education, workshops and 4E learning
- Media art preservation and archiving
- AI bias and digital colonialism
- Feminist, intersectional and xeno-feminist approaches
- Social activism, radical politics and grassroots movements
- Curatorial practices of care
- Critical, speculative and ludic design
- Accessible and inclusive artistic interfaces
- Planetary care, sustainability and the Neg-Anthropocene
Submission formats
The conference welcomes proposals for:
- Forums involving active audience participation
- Moderated panels and roundtables
- Short talks of 10 minutes
- Music, media performances and screenings
- Workshops
- Artefacts and demos
Submission requirements vary according to the format. Abstracts, concept notes, technical riders, documentation links and biographies may be required.
Travel grants
A limited number of travel grants are available. Please indicate in your submission whether you wish to apply, and whether you would still attend without financial support.

There is no conference fee for attendance or participation.
