In the midst of totalitarianism, dystopia, disorientation and general tendencies towards dissolution, we seem to have lost matter. We are out of Matter.
STWST is working on even more dissolution and dematerialisation. With OUT OF MATTER we plan to work on unlimited electromagnetic spaces, on nebulised spheres, dissolved entities, delimited systems, far-reaching networks – on new Needs and NegMatters to keep the systems open.
What are the things of concern? What are our materials? What are our resources? What do we want?
OUT OF MATTER is an exhibition arrangement of Stadtwerkstatt: Art and theory drift towards each other from different sides. With exemplary coordinates, we think of a new form of dialectic that let the matters work for themselves: Life and non-life, art and technology, information and nature, material and abstraction, reconstruction and deconstruction: All opposites inclusive!
STWST NO ARTIST LINE UP:
OUT OF MATTER is done by STWST collective, artists and workers, in a practice of constantly redefining art contexts. Artistic positions dissolved into each other. No authorship. Instead, with various research fields from Infolab to Quasikunst and more, Stadtwerkstatt poses new questions about Matters, Needs and an art after New Media. With OUT OF MATTER we involve the critical agency and dissolve individual artistic positions and authorship in favour of a collective construct – also here in order to work on a NEW CONNECTING, EVERYTHING DISSOLVED.
Stadtwerkstatt (STWST) has been art, club and autonomous structure since 1979. In the context of early media art, the house has a history of significant projects. STWST is art, theory and practice, social free space, a place of empowerment and political discourse. Currently, Stadtwerkstatt is active in the areas of New Art Contexts, runs research on art and technology, media channels, the STWST Club and Cafe Strom.
