Piksel Festival

About

Piksel is an international network and annual event for electronic art and technological freedom. Part workshop, part festival, it is organised in Bergen, Norway, and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of free technologies.

The development, and therefore use, of digital technology today is mainly controlled by multinational corporations. Despite the prospects of technology expanding the means of artistic expression, the commercial demands of the software industries severely limit them instead. Piksel is focusing on the Free/Libre and Open Source movement as a strategy for regaining artistic control of the technology, but also a means to bring attention to the close connections between art, politics, technology and economy.

Piksel is a member of The Art of Balance (Balansekunst), VISP, BRAK, PROSCEN and OFF (Open Free Festivals).

Piksel was a member of the Pixelache network of electronic art festivals – pixelache.ac – and one of the nodes in the Production Network for Electronic Art in Norway – PNEK

Piksel has been a partner organisation in several international collaborations, among others; Libre Graphics Research Unit (LGRU), OpenSound, NORTH Creative Network and Digital_ia 2014.

We won’t tolerate harassment of festival participants in any manner. Any participant, performer, speaker, sponsor, volunteer, staff or audience members violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the festival event at the discretion of the organizers.

Harassment includes offensive activities and comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked by the event organizers to stop any harassment activities are expected to comply immediately.

Enforcement

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the festival organisers reserve the right to take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event and festival.

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately (easily identifiable by festival badge).

A member of the event team will be happy to help participants contact security, local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We expect attendees and participants to follow these rules at all festival venues and events.
